5・6年生 英語 Halloween This Year

10月30日(金) In a normal year, at this time of year, we would combine the 5th and 6th grades and have a Halloween Party.  The students would wear their own homemade costumes and parade around the school.  Then we would have a contest and choose the most creative costumes.
However, because of the coronavirus, we have greatly scaled down the event.  In class, the students took part in a Halloween Quiz.  This quiz was held in English and dealt with the history and meaning of Halloween.  Many of the customs and traditions of Halloween, such as wearing costumes and carving Jack-o-lanterns, were explained.  The students were surprised to learn that Halloween began in ancient times, and was originally not a happy celebration but actually a very scary time of year.  By the end of the class, they all had a much better understanding of the true meaning of Halloween!
