2年生 英語 New School Year

4月28日(木) We started the class with a dictation.  The second graders studied phonics in the 1st grade (consonants and vowel sounds), but as it still only April, it’s good to review.  Today we focused on the letters: Ss, Tt, Uu, Vv, Ww, and Xx.  We then opened our new books “Sounds Great 2”. More than just simple ABCs and phonics, the textbook helps the students slowly put sounds together to form simple, 3-letter words like c – at = cat/ v -an = van / t – ag = tag.  We’re focused on the “a” sound now. This is a little difficult for some students right now,  but I am confident that all the students will have mastered phonics by the end of the year.  We can then move onto more difficult words.
After finishing the textbook, we opened our Word Books and studied vocabulary used inside a student’s bedroom, such as: ruler, pen case, desk, eraser, etc.   To help the students remember the vocabulary, we played a game where one student draws a picture of a word from the Word Book on the whiteboard, and whoever can guess what the picture is, can draw on the whiteboard next.  That student’s team also gets a point, and the team with the most points at the end of the game is the winner!
