2年生 英語 3 letter sounds, chants and writing practice

9月11日(月) We start off the class with general greetings – “how are you?”, the usual answers are “I’m great!”, “I’m hungry!”. I then try to elicit some conversation from those answers. Then we play a warm-up game. Today was “Simon says”. The class enjoys this game. It’s a very active game.

Next, we move on to the textbook.  I always play the opening music track on the CD, the students really enjoy the song. Before we look at the book I go over some vocabulary and the sounds first. Today for example, the chant had “late for school” and “ hug your mum”, so I explained these sentences first. Today’s sounds were “ud”, “un” and “ut”. We used these sounds in the 3 letter words for writing practice. Generally their writing is pretty good but I demonstrated writing these words on the board, showing the students that it’s important to write on the lines and using the appropriate spacing.

After the textbook we play a game. The first game today was a “guess the word game” from the vocabulary cards. I split the class into 3 teams. I give them the category that the word is from and then choose a member from that team to have a guess at the word. I like this game because it reinforces a lot of vocabulary.

Finally, I told the class that they did a great job today and said my goodbye.
